Compliance and security
Sentinel is being developed to reduce compliance risk, so it is being designed to the same standard it will apply to every claim.
HIPAA and patient data
- A Business Associate Agreement with every practice before any patient data is shared
- Only the minimum data needed for each task
- HIPAA Safe Harbor de-identification before data is used for measurement or research
- Patient data is never sold or used for advertising
Security by design
Sentinel is being built with these requirements from the start:
- Encryption in transit and at rest
- Data hosted in the United States
- Role-based access, with every access logged
- Every decision recorded with its reason, for practice audits and our own
Human oversight of AI
Sentinel will recommend; a qualified person decides. Every held claim goes to the coder with the reason it was held, and nothing is changed or submitted on Sentinel's judgment alone.
We will track Sentinel's own accuracy, including wrong holds and missed errors, and review its rules whenever coding guidance changes.
Coding standards
Procedure codes
CPT® and HCPCS Level II, using current-year code sets.
Diagnosis codes
ICD-10-CM and its official coding guidelines.
Edits
National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) procedure-to-procedure and medically unlikely edits.
Payer policy
Medicare coverage determinations and commercial payer policies where available.
